League of Extraordinary Students Launched at UGA

2 02 2009

In case you didn’t know, one of our Creative Consultants clients is the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy.

The Ferst Foundation is an organization that gives FREE books to all registered children from birth to age 5. It’s a partner of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and its headquarters are just South of here in Morgan County.

Just think about it. If you register your child when he/she’s born, you’ll have 60 books by the time it’s time to go to Kindergarten!

I think that’s pretty awesome. Talk about a library to brag about.

If you’d like to see what books are given to the children (based on their ages), click here. I bet you’ll see some you used to read!

Of course, the books aren’t totally free. Someone has to pay for them, and that someone could be you (and five of your closest friends)!

The League of Extraordinary Students (LES) is a university-organized effort to raise money to pay for the books that the children are given.

To join the League, a student or student group would commit to sponsor one or more children in the program, which requires raising $180/child to cover the cost of books and mailing for up to five years, and to volunteer for five hours in literacy-related community service.

For more information about the League of Extraordinary Students or to become a member, please visit www.tinyurl.com/ferstles or contact Kristen Fraser by e-mail at leagueofextraordinarystudents@gmail.com.

No wonder people love us.

4 12 2008

I just have to say on behalf of the ENTIRE E-board that our Creative Consultants teams absolutely ROCK!!!!!

Guys, if you weren’t there, you missed the most impressive client work I’ve ever seen.  Listening to each johnny-bravopresentation made me realize that we TRULY are Democracy’s Next Generation.

The client interactions, presentations, speaking skills, progress, creativity, professionalism and TEAMWORK made me so, incredibly proud to be a part of PRSSA at our wonderful university.

I left Sanford Hall on a total public relations high just thinking about all the GOOD we are doing in the world.  Whether it’s for a nonprofit, a sports team, our college, or whatever, you’re spreading the Gospel of Grady in such a positive light.

Also, thanks to our wonderful judges, Justin Pettigrew, Dr. Russell, Dr. Reber and Ashley Harp from Jackson Spalding for being so attentive and asking great questions.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

Last but not least, I think Ms. Kaitlyn Darr needs a round of applause. I have never seen such impeccable organization and running the show.  She did an amazing job, and it’s all because she loves her Creative Consultants babies so much. :)

So, job well done, troops. Now get back to studying for whatever, but get back to it with a positive peace of mind. “You done me proud!”

Love,

Katherine

Creative Consultants gets a National Shout-Out!

29 10 2008

This is big news, everyone.

In the latest edition of PR Week, Creative Consultants is mentioned in an article about student-run public relations firms.

Our very own Kaitlyn Darr is quoted from the interview she had with the reporter.  PR Week is a national publication that most public relations, advertising, marketing and consulting firms subscribe to.  It’s a huge deal to be mentioned in a publication like this because of the expansive readership.

We know all of our Creative Consultants teams are doing fabulously, so keep up the good work!

To read the article, go here.

Support our Creative Consultants Team! (and get some new shoes, too!)

20 10 2008

Tonight, Monday, October 20 at 8 p.m., our CC Cine team will be hosting the “Style your Sole Party and Movie Screening” at Cine.

Cine is showing the TOMS Shoes documentary For Tomorrow.  TOMS Shoes is an
innovative company that offers a unique product and the opportunity to help a
child in need.  During a trip to Argentina, the company’s founder, Blake
Mycoskie, realized how many children go without shoes.  He returned to the U.S.
with a plan for a new kind of business.

TOMS are canvas slip-on shoes modeled after the traditional Argentine
“alpargata”.  For every pair purchased, TOMS donates a pair to a child in need.
$42 covers a pair for you AND the pair for donation.  ”One for one.”

The Style Your Sole event, on October 20, will give you the opportunity to
purchase a pair of red, black or white TOMS.  You can choose to have your shoes
customized by local artists (including UGA students Missy Cargo, Amy Ishii,
Katie Osburn and popular Athens artist Jamie Calkin) or to customize them
yourself.

The 60-minute featured documentary highlights the founding of TOMS Shoes
and the first Shoe Drop to Argentina.

Admission is $1.  Despite the economy, I’m pretty sure you can pay a dollar.  Buying the shoes is optional!

I encourage ALL of you to drop by!  This is truly a great cause and a neat twist on philanthropy.  Take some pictures, too!  See you there!

Light the Night!

1 10 2008

In case you didn’t know the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is one of our Creative Consultants clients.

Each year, it hosts an event called Light the Night.  Light the Night consists of a one mile loop walk through downtown as you hold candles and remember those who have died from leukemia.  I actually went last year, and it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve done.  It was really cool to walk in the dark with HUNDREDS of other people for the same purpose.

Light the Night will start at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 3 at the Foundry Street Annex behind The Classic Center.

If you want to register before the walk, go to www.lightthenight.org, or you can register when you come to the walk.  Registration is free, but everyone is encouraged to raise money that goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

If you have any questions about Friday, e-mail the LLS account executive, Caitlyn McGann at caitlynmcgann@gmail.com.  I hope at least one of you will come out and support this cause and PRSSA!

Creative Consultant Account Lead Interviews

3 09 2008

Hey everyone!

Really quick, here’s an update on signing up for account lead interviews for Creative Consultants.

There should be time slots still available, but if all of them are taken, Kaitlyn said to start drawing them in at 8:15.  We want to accommodate as many as possible.  The sheet is on Dr. Jones’ bulletin board outside her room.

With that, please make sure you are ON TIME for your interview.  Treat this just like you would an interview for a real job.  In other words, if your interview is at 6, and you arrive at 6, you’re late.  Be there at least 10 minutes before your interview.

In preparation, think about the following:

  • why would you make a good account lead?
  • what leadership qualities do you possess that would help?
  • what is one of your weakness that you’re eager to improve?
  • what are you passionate about?
  • can you handle a team?
  • is there an example of a time in your life where you’ve been proud of your leadership?
  • is there an example of a time when things didn’t go exactly how you wanted? How did you deal with that?

Whether you like it or not, those are the kinds of questions you’ll be asked in real life interviews.  If you can think of some other questions you’ve been asked, post ‘em below so others can read!  It’s always a good idea to try to remember/write down the questions you’ve been asked.
